Welcome to our Social Detectives Group program where your child will become a social detective! This program takes a transdisciplinary approach and is run by our experienced speech therapists and occupational therapists.
In this fun and engaging 10-week program, your child will learn to wear their “detective lens” to learn how to gather clues by watching people, situations, and settings. It will also focus on emotions too! Your child will learn to connect feelings with actions, understanding that all feelings are okay, even the uncomfortable ones.
This program uses an evidence-based book series called “You Are A Social Detective!” by Michelle Garcia Winner and Pamela Crooke to help boost your child’s social awareness, perspective taking and self-regulation.
Suitable For:
The Social Detectives Group is suitable for children aged 6 to 10 years. It’s perfect forcurious children who want to enhance their social thinking skills.
Targeted Skills
Observation Skills: Your child will develop skills in gathering social clues by observing settings, situations, and the people involved.
Emotional Awareness: Your child will learn to identify and connect feelings and emotions with behaviours and build a deeper understanding of social interactions.
Emotional Acceptance and Growth: Your child will develop an understanding that all feelings are valid, including confusing and uncomfortable ones.
Communication skills: Your child will receive support through the use of emojis and special vocabulary, to enhance their learning experience and provide them with tools for effective communication.
Learn Hidden Social Rules: Your child will be provided with numerous opportunities to make smart guesses about hidden social rules in different situations and build their confidence in navigating social dynamics.
Apply Knowledge in Real-Life Scenarios: Your child will learn to apply their skills to everyday situations through examples and tips tailored for school, home, and community life.
