What each session looks like

  • Circle Time: each session will begin with circle time. During this time, children will go through classroom expectations and practice classroom etiquette skills such as raising a hand to speak, answering roll call and participating in show and tell.

  • Reading a Book: After circle time, the children will then engage in reading the assigned book for the week as a group, focusing on comprehension and engagement. A total of 3 books will be targeted during the 10-week program.

  • Tabletop Activities: children will complete two - three tabletop activities designed to target specific school readiness skills related to the assigned book (e.g., phonological awareness, fine motor skills, numeracy skills)

  • Snack Break: there will be a snack break where children can build friendships over conversation by discussing their favourite things, what they did on the weekend etc...

  • Game Time: each session will also include a game that targets social skills such as turn-taking, sharing and cooperation.

  • Your child will receive a workbook that is dedicated to the assigned book for that week, which they will take home and bring back each week. These workbooks will reinforce the skills learned during the session and allow for continued practice at home.

  • At the end of the 10-week program, you will receive a summary report that outlines your child’s progress and recommendations for further development.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Group therapy provides a unique opportunity for your child to practice and generalise the skills they have learnt in individual therapy sessions to real-life situations whilst interacting with children their own age in a supportive and structured environment.

  • If your child is attending one of our 3-day holiday intensive programs, we will happily reserve their therapy time for that week if they are unable to attend both. If your child is attending one of our 10-week term programs, it is still beneficial for your child to continue to attend their regular weekly session in addition to the group program as their individual goals may not be targeted in the group sessions. The group sessions are designed to focus predominantly on social skills whilst incorporating language, literacy, and/or fine motor skills indirectly through this.

  • If the group program time and day clashes with your usual therapy time, you can speak with your therapist to reschedule your session to another time within the week.

  • Once you have registered your interest in our group, your child may need to go through a screener process to determine their suitability for the group. This will be organised prior to securing a place within the group.
