Social Scientists Group
This engaging group combines the excitement of science experiments with the development of essential social skills for children aged 6 - 12 years. Through hands-on activities such as making slime, building volcanoes, creating lava lamps plus much more, we aim to nurture effective communication, problem-solving and positive interactions while exploring the wonders of science.
This group will be split into two based on participants ages between 6 - 9 years and 10 - 12 years.
Targeted Skills
Communication Skills: engaging in science experiments encourages children to explain their observations, ask questions and share findings.
Empathy and Perspective Taking: collaborative experimentation fosters empathy as children work together, respecting each other’s contributions and viewpoints.
Problem-Solving Skills: science experiments present challenges that require critical thinking, analysis and creative problem-solving.
Conflict Resolution: guided discussions help children address disagreements during experiments, teaching them to navigate conflicts constructively.
Teamwork and Collaboration: group experiments promote cooperation, delegation and mutual support.
Decision-Making Skills: children make decisions about experimental approaches, fostering their decision-making skills and encouraging open dialogue.
What Each Session Looks Like
Each session of the social scientists group includes the following activities:
Experiments: participants will complete two experiments across the 90-minute session. These experiments are designed to be fun and help encourage social skills such as sharing, turn taking, problem solving and team work.
Social Skills Game: between the experiments, children will play a fun turn taking game to encourage sharing.
Snack Break: there will also be a snack break during each session, which will provide the participants with an opportunity to talk with new friends and strengthen their social connections.
