Indirect Services Policy
At Moving Mountains Therapy, we are dedicated to providing personalised, high-quality care to help each child thrive. To achieve the best outcomes, our support extends beyond face-to-face therapy sessions and includes indirect services that play an essential role in your child’s progress.
What are Indirect Services?
Indirect services are the behind the scenes work your therapist undertakes to ensure therapy is effective and aligned with your child’s unique needs. These may include:
Preparing resources, visuals and activities to support your child’s goals
Developing social stories and sensory diets
Writing progress reports, updates, or letters for schools and other services
Collaborating with educators and other professionals
Analysing assessments, scoring and tracking data to support therapy progress
Emails that are clinical in nature, for example strategies and opinions sought from a therapist.
Why are Indirect Services Important?
These services allow us to provide holistic, well-rounded support for your child. By dedicating time to preparation, planning, and collaboration, we can deliver therapy that is highly tailored, effective, and aligned with your family’s goals and the community that supports your child.
How We Manage Billing for Indirect Services
In line with professional guidelines, some indirect services may incur charges. These are billed in time increments based on the nature and complexity of the task. We will always communicate with you about any associated costs beforehand, ensuring transparency and peace of mind.
Sickness and Symptoms Policy
At our clinic, we aim to provide a safe and healthy environment for all families and staff. To ensure this, we ask that you review our traffic light triage when deciding whether to attend your appointment in person:
Green light: We understand that these minor symptoms can sometimes linger but should not impact your child’s ability to participate in therapy safely.
Mild sniffles with no other symptoms
A mild cough unrelated to an ongoing illness or fever.
Red: In the event that your child has contagious symptoms such as the below in the last 24 hours which or the safety of our clients and team, clinic based sessions are not appropriate.
Runny nose
Conjuctivitis
Fever (within the past 24 hours)
Persistent cough
Vomiting or diarrhea
Body aches or chills
Whilst we love to see you and your family within the clinic, our alternative services provide an opportunity to maintain consistency and support within the comfort of your home. Alternative services ensure that your child’s progress doesn’t have to pause and provides new opportunities for growth.
Telehealth sessions:
Our telehealth services offer a flexible, convenient way for your child to continue therapy from the comfort of your home. Often families may assume that their child requires the skills to engage with a therapist through zoom, however this is not the case. Just like clinic based sessions are structured to adapt to the strengths and needs of each child’s differences, so are telehealth, meaning both sessions are just as effective for families.
Our alternatives include:
-
Consistency matters: your child can stay on track with therapy goals, avoiding gaps that can impact progression.
Familiar environment can help: for some children, participating in therapy from a familiar environment can reduce anxiety, improve engagement, and help us observe their natural behaviours at home. Children don’t always need to be engaging the therapists during a telehealth session, however we do need parent involvement.
Opportunity to observe changes in behaviour: Telehealth enables our therapists to adapt sessions to include more home based activities that can be integrated into your daily routines, providing practical and achievable ways to reinforce skills outside of structured therapy time.
Case Meetings:
Collaboration is key in ensuring alignment of goals and strategies in supporting children to progress.
-
Discuss and refine goals: We can revisit your child’s therapy plan, ensuring that it continues to reflect their current needs, strengths, and challenges.
Collaborate with a wider team: If your child receives services from multiple professionals, a case meeting can involve other therapists, teachers, or specialists to ensure an integrated and holistic approach.
Evaluate progress and adjust strategies: Case meetings are an ideal time to reassess what’s working, address any concerns, and ensure that both in-person and remote services are effectively supporting your child.
Parent Coaching:
Parent coaching is an empowering way to engage families in their child’s therapy journey. Parent coaching is an excellent opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and strategies without the presence of your child, or to discuss a goal that is not being addressed during intervention sessions, such as feeding or toileting.
-
Become active participants in their child’s progress: You’ll learn hands-on strategies, techniques, and activities to help your child practice and apply new skills between sessions.
Build confidence in managing challenges: Our therapists will work with you directly to tailor approaches that meet your child’s needs at home, whether it’s improving communication, managing behaviour, or supporting development in everyday situations.
Create lasting impact: Parent coaching encourages sustainable progress, giving you the tools to help support your child across all environments, not just during therapy sessions.
This approach fosters greater collaboration between therapists and families, ensuring that therapy goals are well-aligned with your child’s day-to-day experiences.
Resource Packs for Home Practice:
In addition to telehealth and coaching, we provide personalised resource packs filled with activities, games, and strategies designed to help your child practice their therapy goals at home.
-
Practical, fun ways to reinforce skills: Whether your child is working on speech, motor skills, or behaviour, we provide easy-to-implement activities that fit into your family’s routine.
Guided support: Each resource comes with clear instructions to help you feel confident in using these tools at home, ensuring your child stays engaged and progressing between sessions
