TheraSuit Therapy is a training method used by practitioners worldwide as an intensive method for treating children with the following conditions:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Developmental Delays
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI's)
  • Spasticity (Increased muscle tone)
  • Hypotonia (Decreased muscle tone)
  • Ataxia
  • Athetosis

Therasuit Therapy has been available for over 10 years in the USA, Europe and Central America. Over the last few years it has generated increasing interest in Australia,  Moving Mountains TheraSuit therapist  researched this method and saw the unbelievable achievements that families and therapists had made overseas. She wanted to make this treatment accessible to families in Australia  so she packed her bags for a trip to Prague in the Czech Republic to complete the training and bring it back to her practice in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.

TheraSuit Therapy consists of a breathable soft dynamic orthotic suit worn by the child during intensive TheraSuit therapy sessions. An 'Intensive Therasuit Therapy Program's' major goal is to improve and transform proprioception (pressure from the joints, ligaments, muscles), reduce patient's pathological reflexes, restore physiological muscle synergies (proper patterns of movement) and load the entire body with weight. All of the above regulates afferent vestibulo-proprioceptive input (information arriving to thevestibular system). The vestibular system is a very important center. as it processes, integrates and sends back all the information that arrives from muscles, joints, tendons. It influences muscle tone, balance and the position of the body in space.

The Therasuit Cage

The more accurate proprioception from the joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons are, the more correct a child’s alignment will be. A child diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and other neuro-motor disorders require hundreds of repetitions of any particular movement to show improvement. We believe that as individuals, we all have a "magic" number. For example: a baby that is trying to push-off the floor will need to repeat this movement afew hundred times in order to master it. Another one may need either more or less repetitions to learn the same skill. For the Cerebral Palsied child however, this fairly low "magic" number grows to a thousand or more repetitions to learn and master the new skill. A TheraSuit worn over a prolonged time will correct proprioception and accelerate this progress. Thanks to the TheraSuit and physical movement (therapy) the skills practiced will become more fluent and require less and less effort. Therefore the TheraSuit  facilitates the development of new gross and fine motor skills like sitting, standing, walking.

Currently there are more than 425 clinics in 50 countries around the world. Countries in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia are all successfully using the TheraSuit. There are over 3,000 trained therapists and hundreds of trained parents using TheraSuit with their children at home on a daily basis. There have been more than 120,000 successful reports on patients using the TheraSuit Method worldwide. Unconditional credit goes to Izabela and Richard Koscielny and their family from 'Suit Therapy' who developed the suit along with the TheraSuit Method which has changed the lives of thousands of children and their families.
